Warriors by Erin Hunter

This is a wonderful series. Set in the wild, feral cats set in groups called clans fight and make homes far away from the interfering  twolegs(or upwalkers) and their wimpy kittypets. With every series within this world, there is a new generation of cats and a new generation of stories.

Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan

book 1:the lightning thief

Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is on the most dangerous quest of his life. With the help of a satyr and a daughter of Athena, Percy must journey across the United States to catch a thief who has stolen the original weapon of mass destruction – Zeus’ master bolt. Along the way, he must face a host of mythological enemies determined to stop him. Most of all, he must come to terms with a father he has never known, and an Oracle that has warned him of betrayal by a friend.

book 2:the sea of monsters

When Thalia’s tree is mysteriously poisoned, the magical borders of Camp Half-Blood begin to fail. Now Percy and his friends have just days to find the only magic item powerful to save the camp before it is overrun by monsters. The catch: they must sail into the Sea of Monsters to find it. Along the way, Percy must stage a daring rescue operation to save his old friend Grover, and he learns a terrible secret about his own family, which makes him question whether being the son of Poseidon is an honor or a curse.

book 3:the titan's curse

When Percy Jackson gets an urgent distress call from his friend Grover, he immediately prepares for battle. He knows he will need his powerful demigod allies at his side, his trusty bronze sword Riptide, and . . . a ride from his mom.
The demigods rush to the rescue to find that Grover has made an important discovery: two powerful half-bloods whose parentage is unknown. But that’s not all that awaits them. The titan lord Kronos has devised his most treacherous plot yet, and the young heroes have just fallen prey.

They’re not the only ones in danger. An ancient monster has arisen — one rumored to be so powerful it could destroy Olympus — and Artemis, the only goddess who might know how to track it, is missing. Now Percy and his friends, along with the Hunters of Artemis, have only a week to find the kidnapped goddess and solve the mystery of the monster she was hunting.
Along the way, they must face their most dangerous challenge yet: the chilling prophecy of the titan’s curse.

book 4:the battle of the labyrinth

Percy Jackson isn’t expecting freshman orientation to be any fun, but when a mysterious mortal acquaintance appears, pursued by demon cheerleaders, things quickly go from bad to worse.

Time is running out for Percy. War between the gods and the Titans is drawing near. Even Camp Half-Blood isn’t safe, as Kronos’ army prepares to invade its once impenetrable borders. To stop them, Percy and his friends must set out on a quest through the Labyrinth — a sprawling underground world with surprises and danger at every turn.

Along the way Percy will confront powerful enemies, find out the truth about the lost god Pan, and face the Titan lord Kronos’ most terrible secret. The final war begins . . . with the Battle of the Labyrinth.

book 5: the last olympian

All year the half-bloods have been preparing for battle against the Titans, knowing the odds of victory are grim. Kronos’s army is stronger than ever, and with every god and half-blood he recruits, the evil Titan’s power only grows.

While the Olympians struggle to contain the rampaging monster Typhon, Kronos begins his advance on New York City, where Mount Olympus stands virtually unguarded. Now it’s up to Percy Jackson and an army of young demigods to stop the Lord of Time. In this momentous final book in the New York Times best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the long-awaited prophecy surrounding Percy’s sixteenth birthday unfolds. And as the battle for Western civilization rages on the streets of Manhattan, Percy faces a terrifying suspicion that he may be fighting against his own fate.

A dragon. A boy. A secret. When Eragon finds a "stone" in the Spine, he never dreams that it could be so dangerous...When Saphira hatches, though, Eragon is pulled into a world he never imagined could exist, learning magic, fighting monsters, finding allies, and (as always) being betrayed by the one he loves.
Find out more about Eragon and Saphira in the Eragon series--the final installment, Inheritance, is coming soon!

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

These are another set of games, this time a contest of survival instead of for fun, even for a hunter like Katniss. 74 years ago, the districts rebelled against the capital. They were defeated by the Capitols superior technology and District 13 was destroyed completely. The Capitol created the Hunger Games as well in which each district is required to send a boy and girl to a slaughter in an arena where all of the tributes fight to the death.
Katniss, the hunter, however, shows more promise than any at the other District 12 tributes yet. Will she win...or die? Find out in this thrilling trilogy!

Demon in My View by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes

Witches. Vampires. Humans. What luck that I stumble on a nice Gothic read just in time for Halloween! From what I hear about Twilight, (No, I have not actually read the series) this book is very good for its fans.

I like books that are "fantangence" (a combination of science and magic and a wee bit of fantasy). Other fans of this genre should enjoy her other books, which include In the Forests of the Night and Shattered Mirror.

In Demon in My View, Jessica is a typical outcast at her high school. Only she's also a fairly well-known author under the pseudonym of Ash Night (of course). And then her characters turn out to be real, and she finds out that the vampire community she has unwittingly revealed is not pleased. An understatement, in fact--they are furious. Only one thing stops them from silencing her forever (and it is more of a who)--Aubrey, one of --if not THE-- most powerful vampire(s) in her "story".

I hope you like Jessica and Aubrey's tale as much as I did!

Rangers' Apprentice by John Flanagan

Rangers are like spies in Araluen, but are also protectors. There are 50 parts of the kingdom, and one Ranger takes care of each part. Halt, a legendary ranger, accepts Will as his apprentice...the first Ranger's apprentice in years.

At first, Will is unsure of what to make of this...but throughout the series, he develops an undying loyalty to the King's Rangers, Halt and all of his new friends. Not quite the fine knight he'd always wished to be, but still incredibly noble, as much as (if not more) than the Battleschool future he knows he will now never have.

My favorite bit is Alyss, Horace, Jenny, and all of Will's wardmates.

Read more about them in the series.

The Gollywhopper Games by Jody Feldman

Probably my most recent read. It's an incredible book of puzzles, but also people of different strengths and (of course) an accusation with no evidence. This book contains bullies, a false contest, and a poor character everyone can't help but adore. Gil, who bears a resemblance to Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, (a nice old classic which I feel everyone should have read),is a lifelike character who is not at all at home in his hometown, but is constantly experiencing a "too-good-to-be-true" type of sensation. What kid wouldn't want to have Gil's experience, and get to go to a perfect toy factory? The Gollywhopper Games is an exciting book and I think that most fans of fiction will enjoy it as much as I have. I (literally) could not put it down!

Sisters Grimm by Michael Buckley

Do you like mysteries? Fantasy? Murder? Betrayal? Water balloon full of donkey poo thrown by possibly the most annoying trickster in history? Sisters Daphne and Sabrina are adopted (at last by someone slightly sane) by their loving Granny Relda, and by no fault of their own, brought into a strange world full of fairy tales, a Great Dane who can't eat sausage, a magic mirror, a red handprint, a beanstalk and someone formally known as the Big Bad Wolf. All of this is takes place in the first of nine great books! I may sound like an advertisement for the series, but it just rocks. A new book, the final installment and a guide to the series are coming soon!

Fablehaven: part 1

book 1                 book 2               book 3             book 4                  book 5

One of my favorite series is Fablehaven by Brandon Mull. It is certainly fantastic!!!I can't describe how good it is---but I'll try.

Here is some stuff from the author's site (http://brandonmull.com):
book 1:For centuries, mystical creatures of all description were gathered to a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic in a cynical world.  Enchanting?  Absolutely! Exciting? You bet.  Safe?  Well, actually, quite the opposite . . .
Kendra and her brother Seth have no idea that their grandfather is the current caretaker of Fablehaven.  Inside the gated woods, ancient laws give relative order among greedy trolls, mischevious satyrs, plotting witches, spiteful imps, and jealous fairies.  However, when the rules get broken, an arcane evil is unleashed, forcing Kendra and Seth to face the greatest challenge of their lives.  To save her family, Fablehaven, and perhaps the world, Kendra must find the courage to do what she fears most.

book 2:At the end of the school year, Kendra and her brother, Seth, find themselves racing back to Fablehaven.  Grandpa Sorenson, the caretaker, invites three specialists — a potion master, a magical relics collector, and a mystical creature trapper — to help protect the property from the Society of the Evening Star, an ancient organization determined to infiltrate the preserve and steal a hidden artifact of great power.
Time is running out.  The Evening Star is storming the gates.  If the artifact falls into the wrong hands, it could mean the downfall of other preserves and possibly the world.  Will Kendra learn to use her fairy gifts in time?  Will Seth stay out of trouble?  Can they overcome paralyzing fear?

            more on this later.

What I'm reading now...

I'm currently reading the BFG by Roald Dahl. He is a great author who wrote many books, including Matilda ,The Twits, andCharlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The BFG is the only friendly giant among many man-eating giants in Giant Country. In fact, BFG stands for Big Friendly Giant!

A little girl named Sophie sees the large-eared BFG from her bedroom window in the orphanage and so he takes her to Giant Country so he won't  be put in a zoo.He teaches her the way a of a vegetarian in his land and shows her the repulsive Snozzcumber, the only thing that grows there. He even shows her his prized possessions: his dreams.Together, armed with only snozzcumbers and dreams, the runty giant and little orphan set out to warn the Queen of England and ultimately save the world.

I really loved this book and would recommend it to all ages.
